Meet Scott

Hi, my name is Scott.  I'm excited to be part of the Dad Letter Project because it would be a shame to let the lessons I've learned from bad decisions go wasted.  I want to help others by sharing those lessons...for better or worse.

I've been so lucky due to no merit of my own. My mom was orphaned when she was 9-years-old.  As a ward of the state, she lived with over 20 foster families before she aged out of the system when she turned 18.  My dad was an indifferent high school student, but a good athlete, who became a bomber pilot in World War II.  My mom and dad met shortly after the war and were married 8 months after their awkward first introduction.  They were a perfect match and held hands everyday for more than 65 years.  They showed me and my brothers what love looked like and how it acted. That was the greatest gift they could have ever given us.

My greatest accomplishments have been my marriage and my family.  Janet and I have been married for 37.5 years which is a testament to her endurance and low expectations.  When we were married, I was almost 34 years old. By the time I was 40, we had four children (2 girls and 2 boys).  Whew!   I barely remember the 90s.  Truly, it was a whirlwind.  But, it was a rewarding whirlwind that at times turned into a full on hurricane.  Our kids all survived our parental efforts and are now in their 30s with lives, loves and stories of their own.  Though we had our "moments", we all remain close and supportive of each other. We are, afterall, family.

I'm retired. I'm not sure I ever found my professional passion. But, all in all, it worked out, I guess.  Since I never nailed the passion part of work, I was satisfied supporting my family and their interests.  Being a dad is a participation sport.  And, I tried hard to participate the best I could.

Spoiler alert: My handwriting isn't great.  But. I promise to try hard to up my penmanship game. And, I just might include a hand drawn picture of Finn, the world's best golden doodle.  No kidding.  Finn is the bestest of all the best boys!
