About the Dad Letter Project

1

The Dad Letter Project is a volunteer-run nonprofit where kind-hearted dads and father figures write handwritten letters of encouragement to adults who request them. Our dad writers are people who genuinely want to show up — with wisdom, humor, and heart. They are not licensed therapists, counselors, or mental health professionals.

DLP's services are available to adults 18 years of age and older only.

If You Need Immediate Support

2

The Dad Letter Project is not a crisis service and is not equipped to respond to emergency or crisis situations. If you or someone you know needs immediate support, please contact one of the following:

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (US): Call or text 988 — free, 24/7

  • Crisis Text Line (US): Text HOME to 741741 — free, 24/7

  • International crisis resources: befrienders.org

Scope of Service

3

Letters from DLP dad writers are a personal gesture of encouragement — not professional advice, therapy, or crisis intervention. The content of letters reflects the individual perspective and lived experience of each volunteer writer.

  • DLP is not equipped to respond to or support crisis situations.

  • DLP does not monitor submissions for safety purposes and is not responsible for identifying or responding to crisis situations disclosed in letter requests.

  • DLP letters are not a substitute for professional mental health support, therapy, or medical care.

  • Submitting a letter request does not guarantee receipt of a letter. DLP is a volunteer-run nonprofit and letter availability depends entirely on volunteer capacity.

  • DLP does not guarantee a timeline for letter delivery. Wait times depend on volunteer capacity and may vary significantly.

  • DLP dad writers are expressing their own opinions and experiences. They are not responsible for the outcomes of their letters.

  • The Dad Letter Project, its co-founders, board of directors, advisors, partners, and volunteers are not liable for how letters are received or interpreted, and are not responsible for the outcomes of the letters.

How Your Information Is Handled

4

When you submit a letter request, you share your first name, mailing address, email address, and a personal message. Here is how DLP handles that information:

  • Your information is used only to fulfill your letter request and, if you opt in, to send program updates.

  • Your first name and personal message may be shared with your assigned dad writer for the purpose of writing your letter. Your mailing address is not shared with dad writers.

  • Your mailing address is accessed only by the trained volunteers responsible for screening or mailing your letter.

  • Submissions may be reviewed by DLP volunteers as part of our internal processes prior to matching.

  • DLP does not sell, share, or use your personal information for any purpose beyond fulfilling your letter request and optional program communications.

  • DLP receives submissions from across the United States and internationally. Regardless of your location, we handle your information with care and do not share it with third parties for commercial purposes.

  • To request deletion of your information, contact us at support@dadletterproject.com.

Liability

5

By submitting a letter request — or submitting a request on someone else's behalf — you acknowledge the following:

  • This is a volunteer program. Letters are personal gestures, not professional advice, counseling, or therapy.

  • The content of letters is not reviewed by licensed professionals and should not be considered therapeutic, diagnostic, or clinically informed.

  • The Dad Letter Project, its co-founders, board of directors, advisors, partners, and volunteers are not responsible for how letters are received or interpreted.

  • DLP does not guarantee delivery, timing, or the content of any letter.

Letters Requested on Your Behalf

6

If someone submitted a letter request on your behalf and you were not expecting it, or if you would prefer not to receive a letter, please contact us at support@dadletterproject.com and we will remove your information.

If you are submitting a request on behalf of another person, you confirm that the recipient is aware a letter is being requested, has consented to sharing their mailing address with DLP, and has consented to receiving a letter. DLP relies entirely on the submitter's confirmation of this consent and bears no responsibility for submissions made without the recipient's knowledge or agreement.
